New Jersey Family Support Group for those who have Down syndrome and Dementia
Eight years ago, two family members, Jane Boyle and Leone Murphy, started the New Jersey Family Support Group for those who were caring for individuals who had Down syndrome, were aging, and developing dementia. This caring and supportive group meets monthly on the last Tuesday of each month at 3pm via Zoom. Each month there is generally a professional speaker who is well versed in the issues of caring for a relative who has Down syndrome and dementia. Topics are addressed such as Guardianship, Diagnosis of Dementia, living arrangements, day programs and various medical and behavioral concerns. The group consists of many siblings and parents of individuals with Down syndrome.
After the speaker, there is time to check in with all of the participants and address their questions and concerns. It is a very strong and nurturing group so that caregivers do not have to face the aging process of those with Down syndrome and dementia alone. Please click on the button below for more information.
